Swap Supplements for Flavor

Supplement Dependence

I see many clients get so attached to their supplements that they nearly forget just how many they are taking. I once had a woman come into a session wheeling in a suitcase full of bottles! When we started reasoning through them to see why she stated each one in the first place, most of the time she had completely forgotten. This was not an uncommon thing to hear from my clients. Although supplements and herbs can have tremendous power to heal or make up for whats lacking, an overwhelming abundance of them can actually begin to cancel or block one another from their full potency and efficiency. Not only that, but when we are forcing so many potent capsules down our throats, our body is having to work that much harder to get through all of them to help balance the levels that actually stay in your body. Once your body becomes dependent on these supplements, it can begin to take away from your bodies natural ability to extract nutrients from WHOLE FOODS in their natural form.

Adding Flavor to Your Food First

Before I recommend anyone begins a supplement protocol, I take them back to food. Nature knows best. Each plant food is paired perfectly with the right coenzymes, cofactors, vitamins, minerals, and fibers you need to get the most out of that food. It is important to recognize the power of these foods and why I push to get them into every meal.

It is important not to rely on supplements for your daily dose of vitamins and minerals. Some of the most powerful supplements come from your food!

Over 50% of the top nutrient dense foods on the planet come from the plant kingdom.

This means if you want to get the most out of your food, you need to pack in the colorful plant foods: vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and seeds.

You can take this a step further by adding in spices and herbs that have many health benefits:

Cinnamon is rich in antioxidant and supports heart health

Add to tea, smoothies or oatmeal

Turmeric is the most potent anti-inflammatory spice

Sprinkle into nut mylks or into curry sauces

Cumin aids in digestion

Great in latin foods

Black Pepper contains anti bacterial properties

Tastes delicious in just about everything!

So remember to check your fridge and pantry before re-stocking your medicine cabinet!

Pep
